Our History

The Poverty Law Section is proud to be the 43rd section of the State Bar of Texas. Our members include legal services attorneys, private attorneys, members of the judiciary, and members of the academic community. Our section supports these members’ interest in poverty law, whether housing, family, benefits, healthcare access, consumer, or the various other areas of law that affect the poor in Texas communities.

Our Philosophy

Our members share a motivation to care for those who are dependent and vulnerable; in particular, low income Texans.  They believe in being aware of need and working to respond and take care of that need.  Our members care about providing legal assistance to those who cannot afford it.  They believe in equal justice for all Texans.  The Section promotes and fosters that philosophy by providing its members with the tools necessary to further those goals.
